There’s car camping, there’s “glamping”, and then there’s the roof top tents game! When it comes to camping, I’ve always been of the mindset that less is more… I’ve never been a huge fan of taking mass amounts of stuff out into nature… It really defeats the purpose of camping in my opinion. When you lug your picnic table, reclining chairs, camp kitchen, lawn games, tiki-torches, Astroturf, satellite dish, etc. you might as well have stayed home! Again, just my opinion.
That said, the one serious car camping upgrade I have embraced is the roof top tent. I’ve been getting a lot of use out of my Yakima Skyrise this summer, and it is a game changer. The simplicity of set up (even in inclement weather), being elevated, the memory foam mattress, the durability (compared to traditional tents), the free space in your vehicle, are all reasons why this may be a luxury item, but one that maintains the outdoor experience.
With the growing popularity of roof top tents, there are a number of options these days. We have looked closely at the products on the market and some new items that are right around the corner. Here at the ‘Haus we feel that Yakima and Tepui are the two companies worth considering. Between them, there is really a model for every application and budget.
Stop by anytime and we’d be happy to discuss the differences and help you find the perfect upgrade to your camping experience!
