– The new Specialized Riprock kid’s mountain bike takes the “plus-size” concept and adapts it to pint-sized riders!
The latest revolution in mountain bike tech is the adaptation of plus-size tires. What Specialized calls 6Fattie (and the rest of the industry refers to as 650b+) builds upon the 27.5” wheel size and wraps it in a super wide 3” tire resulting in increased floatation, traction, and improved handling. If you think about it, this is truly the best of both worlds: the nimble response of the 27.5” wheel, but with the larger tire you also get an overall diameter that’s more similar to a 29er, thus providing improved rolling efficiency.
6Fattie is awesome for adults, but now there’s an option for the kid’s as well. The Riprock is available in both 20” and 24” wheel sizes and features a monster 2.8” wide tire! Both sizes come complete with a suspension fork and disc brakes. Specialized understands that kids always want what the grown-ups have, and now the little ones can take it to the dirt, street, and trails with a bike that offers abundant traction and control with a confidence-inspiring geometry that will have the “big kids” thinking it’s time to upgrade!
