    Hi Murray,
Your article regarding the discovery of the Europa 109 waxable E109 Tour Xtralite nordic skis, right down to the 3-pin Voile bindings really got my attention! I was one of the luckiest 15-year-olds to experience an experimental, no books high school called Yosemite Mountain High School in the mid-’70s. Our classroom was the backcountry of Tuolumne meadows and the long trail into the Ostrander Olympic Ski Hut. Learning to technical climb the West face of El Capitan, etc. I loved my wood Asnes Tur-Langrenne skis to death, they now occupy the corner at the top of our stairs, the tails having simply delaminated from 35-seasons of hard use. My sons gifted me with the new style skis and I have done my best to learn to enjoy them, just don’t seem to have the control for icy downhill descents and telemark turns in crusty surfaced powder.

My interest here is to ask whether these skis could help Pearl enjoy getting out on the Alaska trails again, she too misses her 3-pin skis (lost them out of the back of our pickup truck 10 years ago.) She is 4-11, barely breaks 100 pounds, and we are in our sixth decade of life. I really think she’d benefit greatly from the Easy Skin option (me too). Our boys all enjoyed nordic skiing, so we have all the wax gear including irons, special brushes, etc. – my stuff was a cork and one each short blue, red, green wax and maybe a chunk of paraffin I stole from my Mom’s baking supplies.

    • Murray Selleck says:

      Hi Scott,
Thanks very much for your comments. All that great skiing is wonderful to have under the belt…

I believe you talked with Vicki on the phone not too long ago so she gave you some information to consider. I think these skis could work for you. I understand Anchorage is a little lean on snow so far this winter and perhaps a bit too much glaze and ice. The Easy Skin can really work great in those conditions. Once you guys get some good cold snow – the kick waxing will kick in and enhance the glide of the E109 skis. Until then the Easy Skin provides nice stability on the icy glazed conditions. Nothing really works great on ice other than some klister concoction or skins… The 170cm length is her size.

This ski, in my opinion, is the perfect blend of touring and turning. Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m happy to help. Murray
