Skate Skiing the Crust!
I always hate to see winter coming to a close. The only bright side I see to winter’s end is the snow crust that forms up overnight. With daytime temperatures reaching into the 40’s the snow becomes very wet during the day – when the temperatures drop overnight and freeze – this wonderful crust layer develops.

Ski the crust first thing in the morning. You’ll have a few hours to ski before the sun loosens up the snow too much and it starts get punchy. It’s such a blast. The entire snowpack is groomed by the sun and it’s fast. This is the perfect way to extend your season deep into the spring (as long as temperatures overnight drop to at least freezing and the snowpack hangs in there). Have fun and see you XC skiing the crust!
