New FullRange Insulation

– New winter gear and clothing is showing up at Ski Haus daily and my new favorite clothing piece is the Patagonia Nano-Air Hoody. Patagonia took their original idea from the ever so popular Nano Jacket and made an even  more versatile piece. How is it that everything seems to get better and better? Well, let’s just say believe it when it comes to the Nano-Air Hoody.

The biggest improvement is the breathability. Everyone talks about breathability but how is it that we continue to overheat? Some one needs to develop an insulation that is intuitive. It needs to be warm when it’s cold and it needs to relax when it isn’t. That sounds like breathability to me. And the Nano-Air has passed some rigorous testing from the Patagonia team of climbers, skiers, and riders.

Here are some specifics: The insulation is light, breathable, stretchy, and warm even if it gets wet. The outer fabric of the hoody is super soft, has full range of motion stretch, and has a DWR (durable water repellancy) finish. This jacket won’t soak through fast. You’ve got time to play in this jacket without a shell even during the wettest Fall or Spring storms. These are the kind of storms that are hardest to plan for. It is cold enough to snow, warm enough that the snow is wet, and your active enough that if you shell up you’re going to cook. Not so with the Nano-Air… keep pushing it and stay comfortable with this hoody that can keep up with you. When the temperatures do take a Winter dive then layer up a shell over it and seal in the heat like toast in a toaster. That thought just makes you feel good!

I run a little on the cool side so I plan on wearing my Nano-Air as a warm layer under my snowboarding shell. But come Springtime I’ll be able to use it as my outer layer. Feeling the breeze move through the jacket will feel great on those mild afternoons on the slopes. I plan to wear the Nano-Air as my to and from work jacket. And maybe I’ll push the envelope a bit and wear it while buying ice cream in frozen foods section in January. Pretty sure this jacket will work just fine. Don’t think this is just a Fall/Winter piece. Use this jacket to take the edge off those cool nights under the stars while camping in the high country around here. Perfect. This is truly a year round – all around jacket.

I love Patagonia! They are always pushing the envelope and coming up with new creative gear.
