– The Burke was designed by Miir Bicycles in Seattle, Washington to be the ultimate commuter, and certainly has a place here in Steamboat Springs! There’s no shortage of hybrid-style bicycles that suggest a more comfortable riding position than a traditional road bike, and more efficient traveling than a mountain bike. However, many of these options tend to be more “cruiser” than “commuter”. For those who will use cycling as their primary mode of transportation, Miir has a bike with you in mind.
The Burke was purpose-built to provide a lifetime of efficient miles, in a nearly maintenance-free setup. By designing the frame with a pass-through in the seatstay, it allows for the use of a belt drive system in lieu of a traditional chain. This has a number of benefits including longevity, quiet operation, and minimal maintenance. The Gates Carbon Belt connects to a Shimano Alfine 8-speed internally geared hub that provides plenty of gear ratio for the terrain between you and your destination. It also supports the simplicity of the Burke by eliminating the need for a clunky derailleur system. The smoothness of the unique drivetrain is further complemented by the 4130 Chromoly frame and fork. Steel has inherent absorptive properties that make it superior to aluminum when comes to negotiating even the roughest roads. Finally, inclement weather has little impact on braking performance thanks to the Burke’s Tektro hydraulic disc brakes which round out the notable list of components Miir used to assemble the ultimate commuter.
Miir as a company, goes beyond building great bikes… They also believe strongly in giving back. Every Miir bicycle purchased helps provide one bicycle to a person in need. To date, Miir has donated more than 3,000 bicycles. They have also have participated in 36 water projects providing clean water to those without.
The Miir Burke is available now at Ski Haus! ($1,395)
