This summer I have been on the quest for the ultimate climbing pant, one functional enough for a day of trad climbing at the Domes, but comfortable and durable enough to handle long tough alpine scrambles. Lighter weight pants are too fragile and end up tattered, abused and full of patches and after market stitching. Others that are dense enough to handle a day on rock end up leaving me restricted and bunched up around my harness and feeling the afternoon heat.
Well, my quest has come to a halt after discovering the Kuhl Renegade Pant. This climbing pant is light and comfortable for those long approaches or warm afternoon south facing aspects; yet, it remains durable enough to withstand the Knife-edge traverse on Capitol Peak. The Renegade is nonrestrictive and has a tremendous amount of 4 way stretch necessary for a big high step or long stem move. In addition to the traditional 4 pockets, the Renegade has two lower zipper pockets, conveniently placed low enough to stay out of the way of any harness leg loops. This is the ultimate 3-season climbing pant (unfortunately, not the ideal ice climbing pant), perfect fall climbing attire for those cool mornings and warm afternoon sun.
This pant does it all and for any climber looking for a do-it-all pant, this is the one for you. Stop on into Ski Haus and try them on for yourself and discover the comfort for these awesome Kuhl pants.
