Even though it’s dry in town, Walton Peak is beginning to build its base with about a foot and half of snow. Time to enjoy your first turns of the year or strap on your snowshoes! However, as the skiing is beginning up on Rabbit Ears, we want to remind you that it is still hunting season. Whether your snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or even just hiking around lower elevations, make sure you are visible! It is still important to wear orange even though it feels like winter on some trails.
Don’t forget about your trusty hiking partners too. Dogs can be mistaken for deer, coyotes, and other animals! If you don’t have anything to outfit your pup with, come on down to Ski Haus. Whether it’s a quick orange bandana tied around his collar or a vest for any size pooch, we’ve got you covered. We carry the Ruffwear Track Jacket that is a quick drying polyester material. The vest can be machine washed too, so don’t worry if your guy finds himself in a mud puddle! It also features a reflective stripe down each side of the body and attachment points for a light. Sometimes it’s not easy to get off the hill before the sun sets, so make sure your dog is visible to hunters in the twilight as well.
The final Archery and Rifle seasons end December 31st and December 14th respectively. This means we still have over a month to be conscious of our friends in the woods. Make sure you and your dog are safe until the end!
Ski Haus offers the Ruffwear Track Jacket for $39.95 and orange bandanas for $2.95.
