Rock Climbing Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Early Season Climbing Access
Snow is melting and its time to swap those boots and skis for a harness and rope. Its the time of year for ascents rather then descents. Whether you are into alpine, trad, sport or bouldering Ski Haus has the gear for any outing.
For all you rock jocks out wondering where to go climbing, here are the crags currently climbable around the area; Butcherknife Creek, CMC Boulder, Blob Rock, Seedhouse Crag, Stagecoach Reservoir are all dry, with an easy approach.
For those of you feeling more adventurous, and have a mountain bike you can haul up north, Box Canyon, Outside the Box, Cougar Rock and Hole in the Wall offer plenty of sun. Unfortunately, you will have to either bike in from the forest service gate closed on Seedhouse Road or trudge through some remaining snow piles to get to the base of the climb; but then again whoever complained about an adventurous multi-sport day?
Just a reminder, remember to practice appropriate Leave-No-Trace on any trails with suspect or muddy conditions. Observe all forest service closures, its for your own safety and the protection of the ecosystem. Have fun out there, be safe and happy sending. – Kevin
