2017 Ski Haus and CAIC Avalanche Awareness Clinic – Don’t Let Your Guard Down

2017 Ski Haus Avalanche Awarness Clinic

An Informative weekend with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center

An avalanche awareness clinic is an excellent event to attend – especially if you are a backcountry skier, snowmobiler, or snowshoer. Knowledge is the only way to stay safe… luck is not a plan when it comes to exploring the winter backcountry and snowpack!

Ski Haus has been hosting this Avalanche Awareness Clinic since the early 80’s. And with the explosion of popularity in alpine touring skiing and especially snowmobiling – this informative clinic is even more important.

The weekend begins Friday, January 20, 2017 at the CMC Allbright Auditorium. From 7pm to 9pm is a free, open to the public, discussion/slideshow presented by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. All are welcome. Cash donations to benefit the CAIC are welcome and encouraged. Topics will include local snowpack stability, avalanche warning signs, weather, avalanche safety tools (shovels, probes, transceivers, inflatable avalanche packs etc), rescue, local avalanche incidents and more.

Saturday, January 21, 2017 is an all day session on Rabbit Ears Pass. $45. Limited to 25 people. Sign up at Ski Haus. Must prepay to get your name on the list. No refunds! All money to benefit the CAIC. The field day is a great way to apply the information from the previous night’s session to hands on practice.

The day includes digging snow pits to analyze snowpack stability, transceiver practice, rescue techniques (shoveling and probing), route finding, and learning practical winter backcountry knowledge.

The day is lead by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center with support from members of the Steamboat Ski Patrol.

Sign up early. This class always fills up fast!
