Fat Bike and Nordic Ski Series

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Pleasant Valley Race Ride Tour Series presented by Lake Catamount Touring Center and Ski Haus.

Lake Catamount and Ski Haus are combining Fat Bike and Skinny Skis into a 4 (maybe 5) event series with the emphasis on fun and participation… not just race results. We’ve lowered entry fees and added lots of value with t-shirts, burgers, beers, and even cornhole time bonuses! We have our fingers crossed that you find all of this too much fun to resist and come out and join the fun!

All events will be held at the Lake Catamount Touring Center. Here is a quick list of dates with a brief description. Kids 12 years old and younger participate for free. To register online click here. You can also register at Ski Haus or at the Outfitter Cabin at the Lake Catamount Touring Center.

Full Moon Fat Bike Race and Ride – Wednesday, January 11, 2017 . 6pm start. $25 includes Burger, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage. Last year’s Full Moon Race/Rides were a huge success. Everyone from full-on racers to friends who just wanted to ride together to enjoy the moonlight scenery came out to play. It is super cool to see the fat bikers spread out over the Lake Catamount Touring Center’s tracks in the moonlight with their flashing bike lights reflecting off the snow. Post ride everyone meets up at the Catamount Club House Restaurant for a satisfying burger, cold beer (or non alcohol beverage) and let the story telling begin!

Ski Haus Classic Nordic Race – Sunday January 15, 2017 . 10am start
Don’t bring your skate skis to this event. Classic only! Multiple courses available, 2k, 5k, 7k, 14k distances. From the tiniest of skiers to some old-timers who can still stride out pretty darn fast to some very fit racers – you’ll see ’em all the Classic event. This race has been a highlight each winter for a number of years. Come join the fun. Enter to race, enter to leisurely tour the course with friends, or enter to show support for the oldest of skiing styles. All are welcome!

Full Moon Fat Bike Race – Wednesday February 8, 2017 . 6 pm $25 includes Burger, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage.
Here’s your second chance to howl at the full moon while riding or racing your fat bike around the beautiful Lake Catamount Nordic Trails. Ride hard and race or come on out for a fun pedal. Either way you’ll have a blast warming up post race chowing down at the Lake Catamount Club House Restaurant with a filling hot burger, friendly conversation, and a cold beer.

Lake Catamount Nordic Marathon – Sunday February 26, 2017 . 10am start
Open to skate skiing or classic skiing here is the distance race of the season. 2k, 5k, 7k, 14k, and 28k distances. This is a great race to set your sights on. Skiing up to 32k and finishing while feeling good is a worthy goal for anyone! Not quite up to the long distance ski? Come on out and have fun with any of the other distances. The course and track at Lake Catamount is really some of the best you will ever ski and the views of the Yampa Valley are spectacular.

(Tentative) Fat Bike/Nordic Ski Relay – Sunday, March 12, 2017. 10am
This event all depends on course/track conditions. Early March can be a toss up so stay tuned on this event. The season finale brings Fat Bikes and Skinny Skis together for the last event of the season. Enter this event as a team or solo. Be ready to ski and pedal and those who are real serious will have been practicing their cornhole tosses to earn those valuable time bonuses. Talk about drama!

We hope you find the Pleasant Valley Race Ride Tour too fun and exciting to pass up. Enter one or all events and we sincerely hope to see you at Lake Catamount Tour Center. Help spread the word and see you out there!

I’m interested in the Ski Haus Catamount Classic ski race on 1/15. The registration site says the event series registration is closed, but I cannot register only just for the 1/15 event. What is the cost, and can I sign up on race day?

    Thank you,
    Mary Gilbert

      Hi Mary,
Sorry for the late reply. I’m just getting back from the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake. Yes, you can register the day of. Have you tried to register online again? I’m just getting back so I was unaware of the glitch on webscorer.com – it sounds like that should just be temporary… I hope. Please let me know. There is a same day registration price increase but so if you can’t register online I’ll have the folks in the Outfitter Cabin at Lake Catamount aware of your situation. Hope to see you tomorrow! It will be fun! Thanks, Murray

        Hi Murray:

Sorry for the delay. I didn’t see your 1/14 reply –thought it would come in my regular email. I couldn’t make the 1/15 Catamount Classic race, after all. There’s no technical online glitch. I did find (with help from friends ) the place to register for those individual races; however, it’s a little obscure link “buried” inside a paragraph. Maybe for another year make that registration link more obvious. But, I’m coming for the 2/26 Catamount marathon.
        Thanks you for your reply,
        Mary Gilbert
