Winter might have ended a little sooner than expected, but that just opens the door for more activities a little earlier. Did you hear the clang of some chains? That’s right, Frisbee golf discs are flying through the air. With courses drying up all over the area, disc golf is already in full swing.

For those of you who are new to the area or new to the sport of Disc Golf, there are a few courses in the immediate area.

CMC Hillside:
Location:  From Lincoln Ave., in Steamboat Springs, go north on 12th St.  Take a left onto Bob Adams Dr. and follow signs to Hill Hall. First hole tee is in the back left corner of the parking lot.

Course Description: A shorter hilly course with 9 baskets and 18 tee boxes.  Hillside is a great course for beginners, but fun for golfers of any experience level. Come into Ski Haus for a map.

Thunderhead:
Location:  From Hwy 40 in Steamboat Springs exit Mt Werner Rd and head towards the ski area.  Take a left on Mt. Werner Circle then a left on Burgess Creek Rd.  Take Burgess Creek till it ends (just under 2 miles) and park by the chairlift. Follow signs to the first tee box.

Course Description: Longer course through the forest and on wide open ski runs.  This course and some of everything and can take an hour or two to complete.  Make sure to bring water, good shoes and extra discs. Not the best choice for beginners but a lot of fun for intermediate or experienced players.

Other Courses in the Area:

–          Haybro Red Tail, near Oak Creek (Private Course with a small fee and waiver required)

–          Dry Creek, in Hayden

–          Loudy Simpson Park, in Craig

With both courses in town being free, all you need are some discs, water, sunscreen and a good pair of shoes to get started. There are lots of reasons why it might be time to get some new discs, here are a few:

  • Just started playing
  • Dog ate my disc
  • Couldn’t wait for summer and lost my disc in the snow
  • First throw of the season ended up on top of the CMC dorm
  • Your niece really liked your pink driver and took it back to Ohio with her
  • Been carrying a driver and putter and decided it’s time to add a full arsenal
  • Just like buying something under $20 at Ski Haus

At Ski Haus we have discs from Innova, Discraft, Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64 and Westside and the staff to help get you started.
