Hometown hero, Johnny Spillane, just after finishing 2nd in the Nordic Combined at the Vancouver Olympics. Fantastic! Congratulations Johnny!
Nordic Combined has been around since the very first Winter Olympics in 1924. The USA has had some strong and fast skiers in NC over the years, but we have never won an Olympic medal. The USA has come close, knocking on the door for an Olympic medal in 2006. Yesterday, the USA went ahead and knocked the door down. It took 86 years, but we finally won a medal. Johnny Spillane took the Silver as team mates Todd Lodwick and Billy Demong followed up in fourth and sixth places respectively. Johnny missed Gold by a fraction of a second with Todd and Billy definitely part of the medal hunt.
